December newsletter

 Dear Blanketeers,
What a year it has been!  Thank you for all that you do!  As of the quarter ending in September, for 2015 we have donated a total of 1579 blankets to children in Salt Lake County and Tooele.  Isn't what wonderful?  That means on average 175 blanket per month are made, distributed and loved!  Your dedication and continued support allows our chapter to do amazing things!

Please join us on Monday, December 7th at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 2500 E 3900 S, Holladay.  It's the north valley blanket day from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.  We will serve lunch about noon.

We hope you can join us, as we gather to celebrate together!

Bluffdale 14th Ward

This month, the enrichment coordinator for the Bluffdale Ward, Annie Gatrell, and relief society president, Tammy Oldroyd, organized an event to make blankets.  Thanks to them, and the volunteers at the event, we have 17 new well-made blankets
to distribute to children.  As you see by their pictures below, they are enjoying their service project and we send them a big thank you.

Project Sanctuary Retreat

The second year in succession we have the privilege to donate
blankets to the children of military families who gather at the National Abilities Center in Park City.   Their program includes counseling, building self-esteem, and sharing experiences with other military families.
Missy Hyatt who directs the program says, “Thanks to everyone at Project Linus.  Our kids love your beautiful blankets.   Thanks you so much.”

Happy 20th Birthday Project Linus!!!
It's hard to believe it's true!  On December 24, 2015, Project Linus will celebrate its 20th Birthday. On Christmas Eve 1995, Karen Loucks Rinedollar, our founder, was inspired by a simple article in a weekly paper that perhaps....perhaps children could be touched, loved, and comforted by a warm snuggly handmade blanket. She quickly realized that she couldn't do this alone and would need volunteers to help. At the time, Karen didn't really have any volunteers, but what she did have was a vision, and friends, and an idea. She was able to put into motion a grassroots effort that has over the years transformed into a nationwide blanket-making army of approximately 75,000 people.
By the time our 20th Birthday arrives, Project Linus will have donated close to 6 MILLION blankets to children who are seriously ill, traumatized or in need. 6 MILLION.
Millions of children and adults have either received the comfort that a handmade blanket can bring, or have been uplifted in the service of children. We are thrilled that Project Linus has grown into the force for good that we know today.

Itineris Early  College High School

High School student, Emilee Hansen, is leading a group of student volunteers in a month long service project making for Project Linus.  Emilee and three teachers met with Millie at their West Jordan campus last week.

They learned and practiced the no-sew fleece blanket technique.  Their plan is to teach it to other students who plan to make blankets over the coming month.   The trend for students to become involved in service projects is a positive one.  Thanks Emilee.

Saint Mary's Catholic Church

Dr. Kathy Osborn, took time out from her busy practice as a pediatrician, to come to Millie’s house last month to learn the no-sew blanket process.  She, and the young women she sponsors at Saint Mary’s Church in Park City, made blankets at their annual service day event on November 15th.  Her girls wanted to do something nice for children to get started on their Christmas season giving.  Thanks Dr. Osborn and your young women.

It's been a great year!  We hope you are able to join us for our luncheon and spend some time together.  We appreciate each and every one of you!
