February 2016 Newsletter

Dear Blanketeers,

I am excited about being asked to coordinate our Chapter of Project Linus, and I am looking forward to the continued success of our Chapter.  I want to be sure that all of you who receive this newsletter have my cell phone number: 801-656-9229. Call me anytime I can help you with a project, answer a question, pick up finished blankets or visit with you about whatever is on your mind.

 upcoming blanket days

South Valley blanket day - usually the fourth Friday of each month.  Friday, January 22nd at Riverton Senior Center in Riverton from 9:30am to noon.  If you have any questions about this project day, please email our chair person Lynn Milsap lynnmilsap@gmail.com ( Friday, February 26th will be our next work day).

North Valley blanket day - usually the first Monday of each month.  Monday, February 1st at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Holladay from 10:00am to 2:00pm. 

 

   St Mary’s Catholic Church

Dr. Kathy Osler had just completed a blanket-making project with her 14 year old pre-confirmation boys and girls from St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Park City.  A few days later, a baby (snuggled in his Linus blanket) was treated at her private practice office.  She was pleased to see the beautiful crochet flannel that the baby had received while in the NICU at St. Mark’s Hospital, and excited to tell the mom that she had been working on the same project – Project Linus.

                                                          
Group Participation  

This past month we have received blankets from three group projects:  Riverton Ranch Ward, Kearns 14th Ward.  Mr. Lindgen’s 4^th grade class at Highland Park Elementary School, and from McGillis Elementary School.  Teachers have learned the process and then closely supervise the kids to help them to complete no-sew blankets. 

Congregation Kol Ami

     Again this year, Congregation Kol Ami has made blankets on their Shabbat volunteer service day at Synagogue.  Nicole Fenwick has been an organizer of the project for the 3^rd year.  We are so happy to have regular contributors who love to make blankets for kids.

Project Linus gratefully acknowledges the large donation of fabric made by the family of Olympia Romero.  Olympia was an original blanketeer!  She made hundreds of blankets and quilts for her family, extended family and to those in need.  Her blankets were beautiful, lovely quilted comforters made with patience and love.  They were contemporary squares of cotton, denim and fleece that served as blankets for many children, including grandchildren, grandnieces and grandnephews.  Her blankets were fun, including sports team logos and appliqued numbered jerseys for many sports fans.   One of Olympia's greatest joys was working on projects where she could give of her talents and time to those in need.  She passed away unexpectedly after a short illness on October 5, 2015.  She is greatly missed by countless family, friends and other loved ones.  Her family is touched to know that her fabrics will continue bringing comfort to children, a cause that was near and dear to her heart.
