Quality Matters 💙 Because Every Blanket is a Gift

In 2026, we are not only striving to maintain our distribution numbers, but also a renewed focus on the quality of the blankets we receive.  These blankets are "gifts" to children and should be our best high quality work.

Please don't send us blankets that are "good enough"; we want them to be exceptional.  It should be a blanket that you would be proud to give as a gift to your own child, grandchild or special child in your life.  Because each blanket we distribute has a Project Linus tag sewn on it, the blanket is not only representing your work, they are representing a national organization with an exceptional reputation to uphold.

Below is a list of our general blanket quality guidelines.  While it doesn't cover every possible detail, we trust your best judgment when preparing blankets for donation.  If you ever have questions or would like clarification, please don't hesitate to reach out to us directly.

General Blanket Quality Guidelines

General - All Blankets

  • Blanket must be clean
  • No lint, pet hair, odors, or debris present
  • Fabric patterns/colors are age appropriate for blanket size, e.g., small/baby/crib sized quilts should be made with baby patterns/colors; large blankets should be made with patterns suitable for older children
  • No potentially controversial or offensive fabric patterns/characters

No Sew Fringed Fleece Blankets (click here for detailed pattern)

  • Fringe length is 3 inches or less
  • Fringe cuts are straight and even
  • All sides are uniform and consistent on all sides*
  • Snipped holes are very small and placed at the middle top of the fringe
  • Snipped holes are consistent in placement on all sides*

*When more than one person is working on a blanket, make sure all participants are cutting sides uniformly.

Crocheted Edge Fleece Blankets

  • Blanket lies flat with no puckering or waviness
  • Foundation row has adequate stitches
    • When using a 12 punch skip blade cutter, typically 1 single crochet in the punched hole followed by 1 chain stitch or 2 single crochet in each hole will allow the fleece to lie flat.  Additional stitches may be needed on corners depending on how the corners are cut (squared or rounded).
  • Stitching is even and consistent
  • At least two rows of crochet edging completed
  • Edging is finished and loose ends are weaved in

Quilts

  • All pins removed
  • All stray threads trimmed
  • Stitching lines are straight and even - no gathers, puckers, or loose seams
  • Edges/borders/bindings are fully finished and secure
  • Ties on tied quilts must be tied securely (double or triple knotted)
