November 2018 Newsletter

Hello Blanketeers,

Here we are – nearing the end of the 2018 year! November, a time to give thanks, and December, a time to give gifts!   As we approach these important months, we begin to prepare for annual events that are meant to help children and give comfort to those in need of love.

We need to be ready for the annual event sponsored by the Salt Lake Police Department where they shop with children.  Usually we contribute about 100 blankets to that event.  We plan for medium size blankets so that every child who picks out a pattern that he/she likes, gets about the same sizes.

Also, we need to prepare for the Christmas distributions to various sites.  This will take place early in December, in order to have the blankets in place at the site of distribution for the events planned by those institutions.

We will be raising money to buy materials and supplies for blanket making at the annual event sponsored by Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church.  Saturday, November 17th–2500 East 3900 South SLC.  There will be vendors, home-made craft items, food, and a rummage sale also.

This past month we have been able to reach out to some sites outside of Salt Lake County.   There is no PL program in Tooele County.  We have been able to share our baby blankets with their “Baby Your Baby” program through their director Kendra.   The photo below illustrates how grateful those young people are to receive our gifts.

Every PL blanket involves many steps:
Shopping for the fabric and yarn,
Making the blankets which means cutting and preparing the fabric,
          Punching the holes for crochet
          Crocheting the edges
          Cutting the no-sew blankets
          Inspecting for quality
          Sewing Linus labels
          Packaging for delivery
Delivering to sites for distribution to those in need.

Each part of this is important work and would not be possible without all of the volunteers who work at every step in the process.

Many thanks to all of you blanketeers  – you know who you are!!

Giving thanks and gifts,
      Millie and Patsy
