2025 February Newsletter

💘February may be the shortest month of the year, but it's shaping up to be a busy one for us!

A short month hence a short newsletter...in this month's newsletter, learn about fundraising efforts, highlights from January's Sew Saturday, an update on the state of Joann, and pictures of some of the blankets received in January.

Fundraising

It's a new year and we are always in need of funds to keep us going strong.  There are several ways that you, your family and your friends can help our chapter.  Please visit our "Ways to Help" tab for information and ways to make donations to our chapter.

Smith's Inspiring Donations

Our 2024 4th quarter donation from Smith's Inspiring Donations program was $35.96.  We have 13 households with their rewards card linked to our organization.  WE CAN DO BETTER!  If you are a Smith's shopper and haven't already, please link your card to our chapter, and ask your friends and family to do so as well!  Detailed instructions are on our "Way to Help" tab.

Scrappy Sewing with Patty

Beginning on February 15th, Project Linus National Headquarters is sponsoring a new fundraiser - "Scrappy Sewing With Patty".  Go to projectlinus.org to register and designate "Salt Lake County Utah Chapter" as the recipient of your donation.  Please share this information with friends, family, fellow quilters, quilting groups, etc.!

Sew Saturday

Chris and Jackie hosted another successful "Sew Saturday" at Chris' house on January 25th. Despite the snowy weather, several quilters gathered in Chris' blanket making workrooms in her basement, working on beautiful quilts that will bring comfort to children in need. Chris has a great selection of fabrics for quilting, along with plenty of kits ready to be transformed into stunning quilts. We also enjoyed a delicious lunch together. We're already looking forward to the next "Sew Saturday" and hope even more people will join the fun! If you aren't a "quilter", we can still use your help with other tasks such as, ironing, cutting, assembling kits, etc.

Also, Chris and Jackie have a lot of quilt tops that need to be finished into quilts and precut fabric kits to make quilt tops. If this is something you would like to do, please email us at slcprojectlinus@gmail.com

JOANN Update

You may or may not know that JOANN entered bankruptcy reorganization last year.  Project Linus National Headquarters was informed that they've filed for a voluntary court-supervised Chapter 11 bankruptcy to help facilitate a sale and maximize the value of their business.

What does that mean for us?  For now, nothing changes.  We'll continue supporting JOANN by purchasing fleece and other materials needed for blanket making.  We're hopeful that things work out for the company!
