September Newsletter 2024

September Newsletter 2024

Here we are at the beginning of fall, kids are back in school, and our days are getting shorter and cooler.  In the past month, our blanketeers, Sweet Charity Sisters and anonymous donors have continued to create lovely blankets for us to donate to the local organizations that we support.  Again this last month we received over 200 blankets and donated over 200!  Thank you all!

In this month's newsletter we have information about a new organization to which we are donating, a story shared with me from Jackie Cohen, a special thank you and pictures of the many beautiful blanket creations from this past month.

Warm regards,
Karen & Millie

ShelterKids - a new partnership for SL County Project Linus!

In late August, we made our first donation of quilts and blankets to "ShelterKids" which is a public private partnership organization with Salt Lake County Youth Services.  ShelterKids is dedicated to assisting young victims of abuse, neglect, or foster care disruption.  With the help of donations, they provide emergency residential care, temporary housing, counseling and preventative services to help kids transition into a more stable living situation.  We hope our blanket donation and future donations provide a warm blanket hug for these youth in need.  Click here for more information about ShelterKids.

A Story from Jackie Cohen

For those who may not know, Jackie Cohen is one of our star blanketeers.  Along with her sister Chris, Jackie coordinates the blanket-making days at Mountain Vista Methodist Church and consistently produces a high volume of blankets each month.  Recently, Jackie suffered a severe fall and broke both legs, leading to her current stay in a rehabilitation facility.  Despite this setback, her dedication remains unwavering!

Even as she recovers, Jackie continues to create beautiful crocheted-edged fleece blankets and actively promotes Project Linus to everyone she meets at the rehab center.  She recently shared a touching moment with us that highlights the profound impact of our work.

During a conversation with one of the caregivers at the center, Jackie explained how Project Linus distributes blankets to various organizations serving children in need throughout Salt Lake County.  To her surprise, the caregiver revealed that she had previously worked at a local hospital that is a regular recipient of our blankets.  She shared how deeply grateful the children are and how much they cherish the comfort these blankets provide.  This exchange was a meaningful "ah-ha" moment for both Jackie and the caregiver - Jackie learned about the recipients of Project Linus blankets, while the caregiver discovered the source of the blankets she had seen in her previous role.

We extend our heartfelt prayers and best wishes to Jackie for a speedy recovery.  We look forward to the day when she's back on her feet, continuing her incredible work with Project Linus.

A Special Thank You

Pictures of recent blanket donations

Every month the blanketeers amaze us with their blankets and quilts.  Millie and I are fortunate to be able to see all of these blankets and quilts as they are labeled and packaged for deliveries.  Below is a sampling of some of the blankets and quilts we've received this month.  I wish you could see all of them.

Enjoy the fall weather!
