 2026 March/April News

As March turns into April and our mild winter slowly lets go, we are reminded that every blanket has a story.  It begins with a volunteer and ends with a child wrapped in warmth.  In our March/April news, you'll find an update on where our blankets go, a fun shopping experience, and an announcement of the latest fundraiser.

Here's to spring, to blankets on new adventures, and to continuing to wrap Salt Lake County children in love.

Keep reading to see what's been keeping us busy!

Wrapped in L💙ve - Blanket Destinations

Because we are always asked where our blankets go and because I was feeling a little nostalgic about past blog posts, I thought it would be fun to revisit a few favorites.  In our April 2024 and May 2024 newsletters we shared stories about a blanket's journey and the many places our blankets go.  If you are curious, click on the month/date above or scroll back and take a look!

We have been busier than ever making and delivering blankets.  As we have mentioned before, we delivered over 3,000 blankets in 2025 alone.  That number represents a lot of love, teamwork, and behind the scenes effort.

Every blanket goes through a careful quality inspection before it is distributed.  We check for pins, even stitching, loose threads, overall shape, odors, pet hair, and more.  You can find all of our quality guidelines on the Quality tab of our blog.  If a blanket does not pass the first inspection, we do our best to fix any issues so it meets our standards before it is shared.  Our hope is that every blanket maker takes pride in their work and donates their very best for a child who truly needs it.

Once a blanket meets our standards, we attach a National Project Linus label and include a special card from our chapter.  Blankets are then sorted, bagged by type and size, and prepared for delivery.

Each month Millie and Karen plan the distributions based on the blankets received the previous month.  Some locations prefer fleece blankets in specific sizes, some need baby sized blankets, and others are happy to receive any size or style.  We work hard to match each organization with the blankets they need most and in the quantities they request.

Our regular recipients include:

  • Alta View Hospital
  • Riverton Hospital
  • St. Mark's NICU
  • Children's Justice Center
  • DDI Vantage
  • FINCH (Family Interim Non-Congregate Housing)
  • Guardian Ad Litem (Salt Lake City & West Jordan)
  • Hearts Knit Together
  • Joyful Welcome
  • Refugee Services
  • Road Home
  • Salt Lake County Health Department
  • Shelter Kids
  • YWCA

In addition to these ongoing donations, we often make annual donations to organizations upon request.  Some examples from past years include Royal Kids Camp, Camp Hobe, and Salt Lake City Police Department Pay it Forward event.

At this time, we are able to meet our current blanket demands.  Occasionally we find ourselves with extra blankets, and when that happens we love seeking out new organizations that could use them.  If you know of an organization in Salt Lake County that serves children, please let us know.  We would love the opportunity to wrap even more children in love.

How about some National Project Linus SWAG?

Who doesn't love a little SWAG, especially when it supports something as cozy and meaningful as Project Linus?  If your wardrobe, coffee cup collection, or gift stash could use a refresh, we have just the thing.

Head over to the online store at projectlinus.org and check out the latest goodies.  The brand new Pr0ject Linus T-shirt is here and it is red and fabulous, celebrating our 30 year anniversary in style.  It is perfect for blanket making days, volunteer events, or just letting the world know you support wrapping kids in love.

Looking for something to keep your beverage hot or cold while you stitch, sew, crochet or knit?  We have drink cups and stainless steel mugs ready to go, because crafting is always better with a favorite drink close by.  There are many other items besides T-shirts and cups so check it out!

Every purchase helps support National Project Linus, so you can feel extra good while you shop.  Treat yourself, grab a gift for a fellow blanket maker or friend, and show off your Project Linus pride.

2026 Scrappy Sewing With Patty Fundraiser

This year's fundraiser opens March 16 on our website at projectlinus.org.

For a $20 donation, you can join in the fun and help us continue providing blankets to children in need.

When you donate, please be sure to designate the Salt Lake County Utah chapter so our local chapter benefits from your support.  You can find more details by clicking on the "Announcements" tab on our blog or go to projectlinus.org.

Happy Scrapping!
